“Binational Economy 2020” was inspired by the theme of the economy between Mexico and the United States, a topic that has marked my history as I am originally from the border between Ojinaga Chihuahua, Mexico and Presidio Texas, where interdependence is a natural state between these two communities.
What happens on one side of the border has a significant impact on the other. Whether we are talking about human and natural resources, as well as commerce and tourism, these are intertwined with security and public health, especially the public health, which took priority during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The binational economy, which is always in constant flux, directly affects the economies of the border regions, particularly the Ojinaga/Presidio border, which has often been overlooked by both sides, despite being literally a gem in the desert. COVID-19 Not only hurt us economically, but with all the human losses that’s why in this painting I try to express my concern about other issues that have arisen due to COVID-19, such as the increase in cases of anxiety and depression, and for the segment of the population that flirts with death daily, such as those classified as essential workers during the pandemic.
